BMHS Food Fund

At Blue Mountain Humane Society, the well-being of our animals is our top priority. We recognize the crucial role that a steady and nutritious diet plays in their health and happiness. Unlike other approaches, we are dedicated to providing our dogs and cats with high-quality, consistent nutrition – the same kind of meals you would be proud to serve to your own pets.

Our mission through Kibble Kwest '24 is to ensure that every pet in our care receives the best possible nutrition throughout the year. We believe in no compromises or shortcuts when it comes to the health of our animals.

Your contribution to Kibble Kwest '24 enables us to uphold this commitment to excellence in nutrition. It's more than just food; it's about providing a foundation for better health and a happier life for our shelter animals. Join us in making a meaningful difference in their lives.

Ever wondered what goes into feeding the beloved animals at BMHS?

Let us take you behind the scenes to show the care and precision involved in nourishing our resident animals.

Twice a Day: Our dedicated team feeds our animals twice daily, at 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM, ensuring they start and end their day with a full belly.

Tailored Nutrition: We weigh each animal and tailor their meals based on weight, providing exactly what they need for optimal health.

Hygiene First: Every meal is served in a clean bowl, with the previous one hand-washed, guaranteeing the highest standards of cleanliness

Health Support: Feeding times also mean administering any necessary meds, seamlessly integrating health care into their routine.

Special Diets: From skin conditions to stress-induced GI issues, we provide special diets ensuring every animal gets the specific care they need.

Enrichment & Care: Evening meals include enriching toppings like wet food, broth, or dental chews, adding variety and joy to their diet. For our fast eaters, puzzle feeders make mealtime both challenging and fun, while Kongs filled with food offer additional enrichment.

Meeting Individual Needs: Picky eaters? Canned chicken is our secret weapon. Fast eaters? Puzzle feeders help slow them down and engage their minds.

What Do Our Experts Say?

A consistent diet is very important for shelter animals, as it directly impacts their health, behavior, and overall well-being. Just like humans, animals thrive on a balanced and predictable nutrition plan. A stable diet ensures that they receive the right balance of nutrients required for their energy levels, immune system strength, and the maintenance of healthy skin and fur. Also, sudden changes in diet can lead to digestive problems and stress, negatively affecting an animal’s physical and emotional state.
— Dr. Ashley Rice

By providing a consistent diet, our shelter can significantly improve the quality of life for our animals, making them healthier, happier, and ultimately more adoptable. This approach not only highlights our commitment to the care and respect of these animals but also mirrors the quality of care that potential adopters would want for their future pets.
